Sushi Sasa – Denver, CO

by fli on January 4, 2012

Been craving for some good Sashimi for a while. Had my hope up high when I was in NYC thinking I could have my last lunch at the Sushi of Gari before I left my project, Gari turned out doesn’t accept walk in.

There isn’t really a good rated Japanese restaurant in the Denver downtown area. A little but out of the way, I found a pretty good reviewed Japanese restaurant, Sushi Sasa. It is about 10 mins walk from where my client is, which is on the edge of downtown.  I wasn’t sure if I want to walk out of the way for 10+ mins but finally I decided to do it.  Totally worth it!

Service is great at the restaurant.  I sat at the bar where I could see the chef working.  I checked the sushi/sashimi items I wanted on their menu paper and I handed that over to the chef.  The chefs handed me my food one plate at a time.  After a while, I couldn’t remember if I have ordered the Unagi or not.  Since I waited for a while and it didn’t come, I thought I didn’t order it.  So after all the items came, I asked for the check.  Turned out I did order Unagi and it was on the check.  I talked to the chef in front of me and sure enough he remembered not serving it to me.  I decided to cancel it instead since I was already pretty full.  Just when I was waiting on the corrected bill to come, the chef was nice enough to gave me a piece of the Unagi for free.  Tasted great!  I will for sure order it next time!  (That maybe next week.  :)  )

The tuna and shrimps are so fresh.

They crisped up the shrimp heads.  Tasted so good!

Uni was on the menu!  Haven’t had good uni for a while.  Loved it!

Tamago’s my favorite too.  Saw the option to have it as sashimi.  $5 for two pieces, yah, a bit pricey.  But they tasted great!

Ocha – New York, NY

On my search for restaurants in the middle of Time Square, I saw the Sushi of Gari popped up.  I heard how good this restaurant is but pricey.  On the last day of my project, I decided to expense my whole day’s food budget on it.  It’s a bit out of the way from Time Square and it was raining but of course it didn’t stop me.  To my disappointment, they only accept customers with reservation.  (I would’ve known it if their phone system actually work!  I actually attempted to call them to order take out but it didn’t go through and I never talked to any human being!)

Looked across and saw another Japanese restaurant.  To ease my craving, I dropped in without looking up any reviews.

Prices are reasonable and I order my usual, Chirashi.  Not bad.  Nothing spectacular but not bad.  And it didn’t cost my whole day’s food budget.  :)
